Registration Process

2022 Tropical Field Research Program 

  1. SOC successfully ran this program in summer 2021 implementing on-site COVID-19 testing and monitoring.

  2. There are opportunities for individual students to join 2022 programs running June 24-July 4, July 20-30, and July 30-Aug 9 

  3. Register participants online (see below). 

  4. SOC will send a detailed pre-registration form and parents/guardians e-sign waivers.

  5. Check here: US Center for Disease Control Costa Rica Vaccine Recommendations

  6. All participants must be vaccinated for COVID-19 to be eligible for 2022 SOC programming.

  7. All participants must obtain 3rd party program travel insurance. Refunds for non-refundable payments are only available through 3rd party insurance that must be purchased close to registration date.​ 

  8. Fundraise by selling Costa Rica coffee and chocolate.

  9. Pay schedule: Families can pay the balance or pay monthly with the final payment due by March 15th, 2022.

2022 Bioinformatics Program

  1. There are opportunities for individual students to join 2022 bioinformatics programs in Monteverde, Costa Rica July 24-Aug 3.

2021 Teacher Training: Insect-Microbiome Antibiotic Bioprospecting

  1. Learn how to run a bioprospecting unit or semester research class at your high school.

  2. We will introduce all the protocols from insect collection to plating and PCR to bioinformatics.

  3. You will receive a detailed research manual that will guide you and your students through the curriculum.

NOTE: Individual Applicants (not part of a pre-existing program) can either join a school from their area if there is capacity, travel as part of an unaffiliated program or help start a group from their high school. Please contact us at info@soc-cr.org for help initiating a new program.
